About the event
TAIKO COMMUNITY JAM (April 5 & 6, 2025), simply drumming pieces together! That's the simple core of what this event is all about. It should be an opportunity to simply drum the now widespread community pieces with players from other groups from all over Germany or even from all over Europe. It won't matter how long you've been drumming or how good you are, anyone who can drum through a piece will be allowed to take part.
But which pieces will be played? The participants decide in advance online. Every registered drummer can submit the pieces they would like to play at this event. After evaluating all the suggestions, taking into account certain conditions such as the composer's permission or the minimum number of players, a program will be drawn up that regulates the time schedule. Of course, you are also welcome to suggest pieces that are not very well known or completely unknown, as preparatory material in the form of videos and notations will be made available for all pieces as early as possible. So that you can even learn one or two new pieces before the jam, but of course you don't have to play everything. It's also a great opportunity to simply have a look at lots of beautiful pieces. It is also planned that the composers of the pieces will receive a fee for their works to express our appreciation and gratitude to them.
But what else is planned? In addition to the main event on Saturday, which will last 4-6 hours, there will be a Taiko session with Silke Hanzen on the same day. As a warm-up to the Taiko Community Jam, so to speak, we will all drum together! This is less about pieces and more about interaction, getting to know each other and exchanging ideas. Anyone who knows Silke knows that, based on over 25 years of taiko experience, she always has new and creative ideas for her taiko sessions. Of course, we'll also be counting up, perhaps we'll become one of the largest groups drumming together in Germany!
Then there will be a small concert in the evening followed by an after-show party, as well as a master class the day before and some workshops the following day for beginners and advanced players. Have another look at the website under “Workshops” or “Concert”.
The size of the event is currently unpredictable; anything from 50 to 200 participants is possible. For this purpose, a large triple sports hall has been specially rented to provide enough space for the jam. All other activities are expected to take place at the Dance4Art dance school, the Sandokan karate center and the Taiko Basement.
But what does it all cost? The tried and tested “PayWhatYouWant” concept will once again be applied here. However, as there are some costs to be covered and it is generally difficult for participants to estimate this well, a sliding scale will be used. We recommend an amount between 40.00 and 80.00 euros.
